ABOUT THE LABEL

Bullseye Records of Canada was established in 1985 as a vanity label for the Toronto band Moving Targetz by founding members Jaimie Vernon and Simon Bedford-James. Following their first 12" EP release "The Wonderful World of Moving Targetz" in April 1985, the label began distributing releases by other Canadian acts including Targetz splinter group Swedish Fish, Brass Bikini, Facepuller, Daughaus, The Id, Shawn Gardner, and Elyse Thorpe.

Bullseye then teamed up with Brian Gagnon's Sound Dynamix recording studio and Paul Anand Music manufacturing in the early 1990s to created a one-stop recording facility, manufacturing plant, music magazine and distribution network which promoted Canadian independent music through six volumes of the award winning "Unsigned, Sealed & Delivered" compilation series and Great White Noise magazine. Artists who benefitted from the exposure included King Apparatus, Carl Dixon (Coney Hatch), Jeff Jones (Red Rider), Virginia Storey (Soho 69), Walter Zwol (Brutus), Kenny MacLean (Platinum Blonde) and The Kings.

In the 2000s the label finally became a full-time concern with a staff of four and the help of investor Jim Hoeck. The label remained a strong supporter of new Canadian independent music (John Boswell, Dave Rave, Tom Hooper, Terry Draper, Dee Long, The First Time, Creighton Doane, Melanie Joy, Wild T., Jamie Dart, Cheaper Thank Therapy, Velvet Hammer, Bill Culp, Kate Schrock, Mannix, et al). It also became a major force in re-issuing Canadian Classic Rock including The Guess Who, The Kings, Klaatu, Goddo, Moxy, Honeymoon Suite, Mainline, Santers, Luke & The Apostles, The Killer Dwarfs, Segarini, Brutus, Figures At Dawn, Harem Scarem/Rubber, The Shakers, The Florida Razors, Brave Belt, Twitch, David Quinton, etc.

By the mid-2000s Bullseye was being distributed internationally and licensing material from such acts as Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull), Leo Sayer, Andrew Gold and Al Kooper (BS & T). The economic collapse in 2008 led to the closing of the label in 2010 but Bullseye is back on track in 2015 to celebrate its 30th year!
